Jeri Gale: A Life in the Arts

Jeri Gaile is an American performing arts leader, actress, and former professional dancer, best known for her more than two decades leading The Music Center’s Spotlight program, one of the nation’s premier performing arts opportunities for high school students, and for her role as Rose McKay on the television series Dallas.

Born in Los Angeles, California, Gaile began her artistic training as a ballet dancer at the age of four. She continued her studies in Los Angeles before attending the School of American Ballet in New York. She performed as a principal dancer with the Los Angeles Ballet and appeared with the San Francisco Ballet and the Bolshoi Ballet while on tour. Having devoted herself to ballet from early childhood, a severe knee injury at age eighteen ended her pursuit of a classical ballet career and led her to transition into commercial dance and acting.

Gaile went on to build a successful career in commercial dance, appearing in films, television, commercials, and touring productions, including the Broadway production of The Blackstone Magic Show. She later gained prominence as an actress through numerous television roles during the 1980s and 1990s, most notably her starring role as Rose McKay on Dallas. She also appeared in several series including Knight Rider, Murder, She Wrote, Cheers, My So Called Life, and Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, among others. Drawing on her own experiences as a young performer, she eventually shifted her focus from performing to arts education and administration, dedicating her career to nurturing the next generation of artists.

Gaile has served as the Fredric Roberts Senior Director of The Music Center’s Spotlight program for more than two decades, leading one of the nation’s premier performing arts opportunities for high school students. Under her leadership, Spotlight has evolved into a nationally recognized program that combines artistic excellence with a deeply supportive educational experience, helping thousands of young artists develop confidence, resilience, and the skills to thrive both on stage and beyond.

She has strengthened Spotlight’s commitment to student growth through expanded artistic coaching opportunities, nationally recognized mastery classes, and a student centered approach that emphasizes creativity, confidence, and belonging. She also led the integration of program evaluation and impact measurement, ensuring that every aspect of the student experience continues to evolve in meaningful and measurable ways.
