Historic Partnerships Empower Dance in Los Angeles: Dance Resource Center Teams Up with Top Venues Across the County to Offer Free and Paid Opportunities for Local Choreographers and Dancers

The HomeGrown Program empowers local artists and performers of all backgrounds, abilities, and at varying stages of career, to create original and revitalize dance works in spaces across L.A.’s diverse neighborhoods.
LOS ANGELES (January, 2026) — Dance Resource Center (DRC) announces historic partnerships with Los Angeles-based performing arts venues and community centers to provide rehearsal, work and creative space across Los Angeles County, from November 2025 through 2026. At no cost to local choreographers and dancers, this collaboration, known as HomeGrown, was conceived in 2015 to connect L.A. dance creators with well-equipped spaces that inspire creativity and actively support the local creative community. Participating HomeGrown arts organizations include —Alvas LLC, Fusion Performing Dance Academy, Lula Washington Dance Theatre, The Music Center and Theatre Raymond Kabbaz—offering dancers and dance companies the opportunity to showcase and develop their dance creations within the vibrant neighborhoods of San Pedro, East L.A., South Central L.A., Downtown L.A., and West L.A., respectively.
“Collaborating with significant LA institutions translates to no cost creative and rehearsal space plus paid performance opportunities provided to local dance-makers. By identifying and addressing the repercussions of inflation, gentrification, fires, and/or the pandemic, HomeGrown supports multicultural individual artists and movement companies, as well as community centers and dance studios via the generosity of our funders and partner sites,” said DRC Executive Director Raélle Dorfan. “Creating and producing is often learned, cultivated and refined through trial and tribulations, now -annually – dozens of local dance makers have equal access to opportunity and invaluable resources to grow and evolve freely within welcoming, supportive, safe, and well-equipped environments.”
As the hub and voice for Greater Los Angeles dance, DRC is proud to empower, represent and include movement forms of diverse artists and organizations reflecting L.A.’s rich socio-cultural mosaic. Studio spaces are utilized to create work in genres of dance varying from African-Diasporic, Contemporary, Dance Storytelling, East Asian, Modern, Dance Theater, Hip Hop/Street Dance, Fusion, Flamenco, Post-modern, Experimental choreography, Ritual performance, and more!
Artists that participate in HomeGrown @ Fusion Performing Dance Academy and HomeGrown @ Lula Washington Dance Theatre have the opportunity to perform at the Fusion Holiday Show taking place in December and/or at The Taste of Soul Festival on Crenshaw in Fall.
