We made it through 2017! That is a big accomplishment, for each of us personally, for the dance community, for the Greater LA area, for California and for the United States. I don’t say this lightly. Dance, as a way for society to express nonverbally its hopes, fears, joys, sorrows, celebrations, frustrations, similarities and differences, is a more important art form than ever. Through dance we can bring people together in ways other art forms cannot by engaging viscerally with those on stage and off, in a classroom as student or teacher, in a women’s shelter as workshop leader or participant. Do not under estimate the power of your medium.
Dance Resource Center can proudly state that we are fully professional organization! The 2017-2018 fiscal year brought a fulltime staff member: Raélle Dorfan, our amazing Managing Director, who makes sure DRC keeps running! We have 16 Board members who are dedicated to DRC’s mission and who bring a wide array of expertise, perspective and creativity to DRC. With over 200 members representing all aspects of the Greater LA dance community, DRC is building a strong strong hub and voice for ALL LA dance stakeholders. One that is based on dignity, respect and a mutual belief that artists genuinely championing each other is the best way to elevate the entire field. It cannot be restated too many times, that Dance Resource Center exists for all genres, voices, perspectives, and modes of working in the Greater LA professional dance world. We welcome all those who consider themselves part of the professional LA dance community with heartfelt open arms.
2018 is a BIG year for LA dance. Mark your calendars for the International Association of Blacks in Dance conference in January and the Dance/USA conference in June. We encourage you to engage with us and make sure LA dance is heard, seen and valued!
Have a terrific Holiday Season and New Year!
