Attention CSUN and Los Angeles Dancers,
Come share the stage with The Martha Graham Dance Company in May at the Valley Performing Arts Center (VPAC) on the CSUN campus!!
VPAC is proud to partner with The Martha Graham Dance Company to create the opening piece for their engagement on May 13, 2017. The piece is the Martha Graham classic, Panorama, first performed at the Bennington School of Dance in 1935. In the spirit of the Panorama premiering at a school, VPAC is bringing together CSUN, select high school, and other community dancers to perform the 10-minute piece that will open the performance Martha Graham and American Music on VPAC’s Great Hall stage. Here is our promotional page for the evening:
We will hold auditions for Panorama on Sunday, March 12th from 10:00 – 11:30AM at VPAC on the CSUN campus. Please see the attached map for directions and parking ($8.00 per vehicle if you cannot find street parking).
Briefly, the time commitment will include a weeklong intensive with a Martha Graham School instructor from New York. The intensive will be an excellent crash course in Graham Technique as well as the initial staging of Panorama. The intensive will be late-afternoon to early evening from Sunday, March 19th to Saturday, March 25th. There will be additional rehearsals with a local Graham specialist, Madeleine Dahm, on Sundays and one weekday until the performance date of May 13th. Participants must be available for all technical rehearsals during the week of May 8th.
If all of this sounds like a wonderful opportunity to you, please RSVP expressing your interest to Dr. Anthony Cantrell, the Director of Arts Education at VPAC (firstname.lastname@example.org).
